WHEREAS, the states of New England and the Eastern Canadian provinces have shared a long history of cooperation and friendship;
WHEREAS, the six governors of the states of New England and the five premiers of the Eastern Canadian provinces formed the Conference of New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers for the first time in Prince Edward Island, Canada, in 1973;
WHEREAS, this year will mark the 40th time the Conference has met since its inception;
WHEREAS, the mission of the Conference is to advance the common interests of the six states and five provinces through mutual cooperation, collective actions, research, increasing public awareness, and implementing regional projects; and
WHEREAS, interests of the Conference over the past forty years have included: clean energy, climate change, trade relations, transportation, emergency planning, economic development, air quality, and infrastructure, among many.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers acknowledge the contributions made by individuals, organizations, businesses, departments, bureaus, etc., to the success of the Conference;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the New England Governors and the Eastern Canadian Premiers encourage cooperation among the public and private sectors in their jurisdictions; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT at this 40th conference, the New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers reaffirm its commitment to continue its strong tradition of friendship and cooperation on shared priorities for many years to come.
