Federal-Provincial-Territorial Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Justice and Public Safety

At the Federal, Provincial, Territorial Deputy Ministers  Responsible for Justice and Public Safety in June 2016, Deputies asked to  include a list of FASD justice programs to accompany the final report of the  Steering Committee on FASD and Access to Justice.

In November 2015, Dr. Michelle Stewart and her research team released  a report called "Environmental Scan: FASD and the Justice System" which  included information about FASD-specific programs and FASD diagnostic services  across Canada. Dr. Stewart is in the process of updating this report which will  be released before the end of 2016. The following names and locations of  programs have been identified through Dr. Stewart's research and details about  these programs will be included in her report which will be posted on her FASD  Research Project webpage:  https://fasdresearchproject.com/.

There are hundreds of programs and services for youth and  adults who are involved in the criminal justice system in Canada. Many of these  programs have clients with FASD, but very few programs exclusively address this  sub-population. As of September 2016, thirteen programs were identified across  Canada that were operating exclusively for clients of the criminal justice system  with FASD (8 for youth and 5 for adults). Most of these programs and services  operate at the correctional level. No programs were identified east of Ontario.
