38th Conference of New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers

RESOLUTION 38-3 – RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE IMPORTANCE OF REGIONAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COOPERATION

WHEREAS the people and economies of the New  England and Eastern Canadian region are linked by strong business, trade,  energy and transportation networks; and

WHEREAS the New England states and Eastern  Canadian provinces face common economic challenges and opportunities; and

WHEREAS the Governors and  Premiers seek to reaffirm the importance of maintaining their relationships, strengthen  regional economic competitiveness in the global marketplace and  advocate for respective federal economic and  trade promotion policies and programs that will benefit the region; and

WHEREAS there is a shared priority in each  of our jurisdictions to accelerate job creation and create a business  environment that stimulates the development of existing and new markets and  investment opportunities and promote regional, national and global trade  opportunities for the region; and

WHEREAS there is a desire to explore  opportunities to coordinate action and establish partnerships, and leverage the  power of regional collaboration for the benefit of all jurisdictions.  

NOW BE IT RESOLVED  THAT Governors and  Premiers direct the Coordinating Committee to establish and oversee a process  for identifying shared opportunities, challenges and barriers associated with  economic development and trade in the region and assessing potential  collaborative actions that could enhance the region’s economic competitiveness.  The Governors and Premiers further direct that an interim report on this  process be submitted through the Coordinating Committee at the 2015 NEG/ECP  annual conference, and a final report, including findings and proposed actions,  at the 2016 NEG/ECP annual conference.
